Rebecca Burns

Art & Design- Graphic Design

Thurmont, MD (Frederick County)

My name is Rebecca Burns and I am a sophomore. I have taken several art classes over my elementary and high school experience and always loved making art. I love drawing and making random projects in my free time, and I would like to be a graphic designer and own my own company one day. I do not have much experience with coding and what-not, but I would like to learn how to make an awesome website and become more experienced with these programs.

Before coming to Towson, I stuck to drawing and painting, creating mostly 2D work. But within my first year here, I had 6 art classes and worked with such a variety of mediums, such as wire, yarn, wood, molds, and tape. Using mediums such as wood, which I had never used before, challenged me to think outside the box and ultimately create some of my best work. Even working with typical mediums like collage, cardboard, and clay I was challenged to create works more quickly and relate them back to themes or content, which I never really thought about before. I had more freedom in these classes as opposed to high school; the projects were much more open with only vague guidelines, so you could pretty much do anything you wanted. I also got my first experience with Photoshop and Illustrator, and created digital pieces such as a fabric, animal hybrids, movie posters, and playing cards.

Other interests

Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, being outside, and I like going to/watching sporting events (baseball, football). I have played softball my whole life, all throughout high school and on several travel teams, and now I play on the club softball team here at Towson. I pitched for a number of years, play second base, and outfield. I also work as a cashier at a grocery store back home.
