Central Park
Central Park was created in 1858 and was created to give those that live in the city a place to enjoy nature. It is still a popular attraction to tourists and locals alike. Over 42 million people visit the park every year. It is one of the most popular urban parks in the country and one of the most popular attractions in New York City.
It is located in the center of Manhattan and is 843 acres of grass lawns, streams, lakes, and woodlands. Later on more recreational additions were included such as baseball and soccer fields, a carousel, two ice skating rinks, a zoo, gardens, monuments, and concert and theater venues.
The park today
There are more than 18,000 trees that help to keep the city air clean and creates a home for various wildlife, including over 200 species of birds. Overall the original purpose of the park was to create a countryside feeling in the middle of the city, which that purpose also serves today. Central Park was and still is one of the most popular attractions in the city.
