Hello, I’m Ren! I'm 21 years old and my pronouns are they/them. I was born and raised in Maryland, however I have family in New Jersey, North Carolina, and Virginia that I visit frequently. I'm the oldest of 8 children, with my siblings being Abby, Maddy, Steven, Zachary, Caleb, Nathan, and Oliver. Thankfully I just live with my mom and step-dad. I have 1 dog named Ray, and 3 cats named Jiji, Wisp, and Maven.
Last year I transferred from my local community college to Towson University in hopes of getting my BFA with a concentration in graphic design! Originally I was an engineering major, but I quickly learned that I was not suited to the strict guidelines, absurd amount of math classes, and just physics as a whole. While I lament the wasted time and energy, I needed to see the negative to understand the positive. I carried my enthusiasm for design and 3D printing into the art world, where I found a new sense of purpose and intrinsic motivation. In all the labor, frustration, and disappointment that can factor into making an art piece, I found I could never resent the act of creation itself. I love all parts of the process just as much as the final product. Art can be a way to view the world from a new perspective and to breathe life into new worlds and concepts. Being able to create in that way and indulge in wonder, be it for myself or another, brings me an immense sense of fulfillment I have seldom found elsewhere.
Im taking this class because i feel like UI/UX design is a really helpful tool in a Graphic Designers belt and will alow me more manuverability in my career. In Design for the WWW I feel like I have a decent grasp on all the fundamentals, but not how to go about polishing my work to be presentable. So I'm looking forward to seeing just what I can do with web design as a creative space.
I currently have no job but I'm on the look out for a DG internship! I have previously worked at my Community College library for 3 years so i at least have some experiecne (and money). In my spare time I like to play video games, with games that are choice based or open world being my go-to's. I just finished Disco Elysium and Flock, and now I'm playing Deep Rock Galactic. My friends/roomates and I hold routine board game nights, with Coup and Catan being our favorites. I also enjoy taking care of plants, however I can't seem to keep anything other than cacti alive... Finally, I've beed doing reaserch into the pre-christian religion Irish Polytheism, so I like listening to podcasts and watching videos on the society, culture, and beleifs practiced then and still practiced now.
