-Demonstrate the ability to use XHTML & CSS code
-Use some JavaScript/jQuery
-Practice onscreen Typography
-Make something that is easy to navigate, easy to read, and looks great
-Make something that will look good in your portfolio.
1) Imagine a place. This could be a restaurant, club, spa, music venue, anyplace, anywhere.
2) Write a brief description about the place.
What does it look like? How big is it? Where is it? Who goes there? How much does it cost?
3) Come up with an identity.
What's the color scheme? Is it formal or informal? Who is your audience?
4) Create an original logo.
5) Build a fully functional website.
note: if you design your pages with forms, the forms don't need to work.
2) Use some JavaScript/jQuery
3) You must change the style & color of everything (including text, background, links, etc.), nothing can have a default color or style.
4) Obviously, the overall design should match the subject matter.
5) NO TABLES
6) Next week you will be required to turn in a typed & printed project proposal (less than 1 page).
this week:
-Familiarize yourself with HTML & CSS, start planning the website.
-Make a logo
-You can start coding, or come up with a great design for your website using Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
-Type up a project proposal that talks about your place:
What does it look like? How big is it? Where is it? Who goes there? How much does it cost? What's the color scheme? Is it formal or informal? Who is your audience?
2nd week:
-Present your ideas to the rest of the class
(Friday, Oct.12)
-Complete most of the site. Have at least a few working webpages completed, and linked together.
3rd week
Finish the site.
what you will turn in on Fri. Oct. 26:
1) Have your site uploaded to a server before class
2) You will turn in a folder, with a CD, with your name (written with a Sharpie), that has your working website on it
-all images used in the site, all the .html
pages, and CSS should be saved on the disc.
3) A printed statement about your place.
Your grade will be determined by your ability to turn things in on time, and follow directions.
The grade for your finished project will be based on your attention to detail, and the overall look of the website.
All webpages designed for the site should have a consistent design or "feel".
All pages should be clearly labeled, have titles, and all the links should work.
Make sure your site is easy to navigate.
Your presentation will also affect your grade.
Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.
