Project B

(Art 382) Interactive Media
Due date: Mon. Oct. 22
note: due in 19 days.
time: at the beginning of class
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Assignment:

1) Think of how to apply user experience design to a website.
2) Type up (and print) a project proposal (due Monday).
3) Using Flash, create an informative, interactive web site.

Things I don't want you to do:
a self promotion website
a website about mainstream bands/artists

Goals:

Do some research
Make something impressive
Build something for your portfolio

Things to think about:

Is this site meant to be fun, or purely informative?
How much text is there? What should it say?
What kind of sounds or videos will you use?
Who is your audience or who would be looking at your site?
Why do you want to do this?
What does this site say about you?
Try to answer all these questions in your project proposal.

Requirements:

1) You must use ActionScript 3.0
2) You must use sound or video
3) Before starting your user experience page, you must turn in a typed proposal
4) Your project must be turned in by the due date, and uploaded before class.
5) As always, it must look good:
good drawings that reflect the content of the work,
good looking graphics, good composition, great design, et cetera...
Remember, if you can't draw it, then use photos or videos.
6) More importantly, make something that will look good in your portfolio.

Things you will turn in (in a folder):

-The URL address of your uploaded project.
-The .fla , .swf, and .html files must be turned in on a CD (with your name).
-A printed statement about the project.

Timeline:

This week (due Monday)
Think of something you would like to research (anything).
Type up a project proposal (less than 1 page).
What's the site about? What will it look like?

Next week
Start building the site using Adobe Flash
Finish the layout of the site

3rd week
Play with variables, add transitions and/or mouse effects.

Project is due Monday October 22nd

Grading:

Your grade will be determined by your ability to turn things in on time, and follow directions. The grade for your finished project will be based on your attention to detail, and the overall look of the website. All webpages designed for the site should have a consistent design or "feel". All pages should be clearly labeled, have titles, and all the links should work. Make sure your site is easy to navigate. Your presentation will also affect your grade.
